Calling all DC geeks! Morgan Spurlock's latest documentary is for us and it's coming to DC this Friday. 7pm, West End Cinema, tickets $11. Morgan Spurlock will be doing a Q&A after the film, so more incentive to go to that showing aside from it being the opening night. I really want to go to this, but my husband isn't a geek and he can't make it anyway.

So...anyone interested in meeting up and going with me? Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning. Not sure about the chances of this selling out, but probably best to get tickets sooner rather than later. Respond below or PM me.

I just finished Cassandra Clare's first book in her prequel series to the Mortal Instruments, Clockwork Angel, on Sunday and I can't stop thinking about it. The first book in the Infernal Devices series was similar to the Mortal Instruments series, but had some good stuff of its own. Has anyone else read it? I really want to discuss it, but there's really not much fan stuff out there. I'm going to try to engage in one of the boards, but I'm not sure what kind of response I'm going to get, so I'm posting here also just in case someone on my flist has also read it.

Clockwork Angel is set about 125 years before the Mortal Instrument series and it's in London, not New York. Sixteen year old Tessa Gray is drawn against her will into the world of Shadowhunters, Downworlders and mundanes after she comes to London from New York to meet her brother. She discovers that she has a unique power and she gets much more than she imagined in this new book.

For those who have read the book ([info]taragel?) - Thinky thoughts and spoilers ahoy here. )

That's it here. If anyone else has read it, I'd love to hear thoughts. Not sure why I held off on reading it for the four months that I knew about it other than not wanting to be disappointed. But it was really good and a quick read as most YA fics are. If you loved the Mortal Instrument series, definitely go out and read this.

The fourth Mortal Instrument series book also came out today - City of Fallen Angels. Since originally there were only going to be three books, I'm thrilled that there will be three more of them and I can't wait to get my copy from the library....in about a month if history is any guide.

I know, I'm about three weeks too late with this, but I've been busy since I got back from Atlanta.

This year I once again made the trek to Atlanta to go to Dragon*Con over Labor Day weekend. It wasn't quite the onslaught to the senses that it was last year, but I think that's because this year I pretty much knew what to expect - geeky awesomeness.

D*C is all about seeing stars from some of your favorite shows, communing with fellow fans, gawking at the incredible costumes and in general just having a really good time with your friends - old and new. Once again there was a large contingent of people from the moose crew: [info]buckeye94, [info]utkari02, [info]lurkrealclose, [info]buckbeakbabie, [info]ginny4harry, new moose [info]pipsytip, as well as moose friends [info]ctofine, Jimmy, their friend Tonya, [info]plynn78, and Carlos. We missed our other moose and moose friends who could not afford to come to D*C and are working on getting them to come next year :)

Going to D*C is almost as much about hanging with your friends as it is going to panels (line parties anyone?), but I did go to plenty of panels. I was less focused on BSG than I was last year, when that was the show that catapulted me into fandom, found me new friends and created the impetus for attending D*C in the first place. This year I branched out from BSG and my Whedon loves to include panels from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Quantum Leap, Jim Butcher (author of the Dresden File series), Legend of the Seeker, and Adam Savage. I also went to one BSG panel, a Firefly panel and the Buffy and Dr. Horrible Sing Along Shows.

I had one first this year when I missed a Firefly panel I desperately wanted to get into - the line for the panel with all four cast members (Summer Glau - River, Sean Maher - Simon, Jewel Staite - Kaylee, and Morena Baccarin- Inara) was so long that they cut it off before everyone could even get in line. Some enterprising people who got in taped it and I was able to watch it online and it looks like I really missed out. I'd been in another panel right before the Firefly one so couldn't line up early. I really like TNG, but I watched it ages ago, so going to the panel was more of a nostalgia thing for me; TNG was the first sci fi show that I was a big fan of. I don't think I've seen much of the show since it was originally on the air though. So if I had it to do over again, I'd line up for Firefly and watch TNG panel online. But having to make tough panel decisions is the mark of a good con. And thanks to my friends I did make it into the Firefly panel the next day with Summer and Sean.

In my 'downtime' between line parties and panels I made sure to hightail it to the Dealer Rooms, where I scored some pins, a tee shirt and some jewelry. I dawdled and decided to hit the Walk of Fame Monday morning before I left just in case anyone was still around. I didn't have much hope of there still being anyone there, but I got my picture taken with Mark Shephard (BSG, Firefly, Dollhouse) and got an autograph from Jewel Staite (Firefly), which were the two things that I'd been wanting to do. Actor access FTW!

I do have lots of pics and plan on posting some of those somewhere soon. In the meantime, Flickr and other sites have plenty to keep you tided over.

All in all, a very fun weekend and I'm already counting the days and plotting for D*C 2011.

I just finished Catching Fire (Book 2 of the Hunger Games) last night and my mind is a swirl with questions - Spoilers for Book 2 here )

I'm still trying to process a few things, but the one thought I keep having is - is it August 24th yet? I've got to find out how this all ends.

And now it's time for me to head to [info]good_hunting_hq to see what some of my fellow K/L shippers thought of the book months ago when they read it. Totally behind the curve here.

I love the TV show Chuck. I like the characters and I think that it started out with a very fun premise. I joined in a bit of the save Chuck campaign last year and I rejoiced when it got a last minute renewal.

That being said, I am not loving this third season. Is it just me, or has Chuck lost a little bit of its spark during Season 3?

Ranting about this season in general and Monday's epi. )

Ok, so I'm three weeks late with this, but I figure better late than never, right? And in my defense I did start a new job the day after I got back, so I've been busy.

On to the recap.... )

Lots of stuff going on here for me. I am back from having an awesometastic time at Dragon*Con in Atlanta this weekend. I have stories and a ton of pictures, but am not sure when I'll have time to put together a post. So stayed tuned...

I also put in my second day of work at a new job today after being unemployed for over six months. I'm loving being back to work, but the getting up early, commuting and working is kind of kicking my ass. Especially since I started it the day after Dragon*Con :P Must.Get.Sleep.Tonight.

And on to the actual topic at hand - I live blogged tonight's GLEE episode. Here be spoilers )

Um yeah, so probably should have just paid attention to the epi, but maybe someone will find this amusing :) Off to get ready for bed and such here. I'm thinking that I'll have time to do a con report on Sunday maybe.

I finally finished reading City of Glass. For the second time. No, it wasn't such a good book that I had to re-read it right away. I got to the end of the book the first time and I felt...nothing. I'd had some shocks along the way as I found out how things were going to resolve themselves, but despite loving the first two books and being totally entangled in them, the third book had no such effect on me. So I wanted to re-read the book to see if maybe being incredibly distracted and tired the first time I'd read the book had dulled my responses to it. And I'm happy to say that I think it had. Although the problem with reading something that you've read before is that you can never re-capture the thrill of discovery of the first reading. I already knew how things were going to turn out. But I'm still glad that I did it. And I've definitely learned my lesson. No reading while massively distracted :P But I digress.

Thoughts about the book. Things have gotten very dark for our heroes. Valentine has two of the Mortal Instruments and it seems inevitable that he will get the third. Clary's mother is still in a coma and her only hope is in Alicante, the City of Glass. Can they wake Clary's mother? Will our heroes manage to thwart Valentine? Can Clary's newly found power help her? How will it all end? It's a twisty, turny interesting journey, with many people being ruled by their emotions. It's horrible in places while still managing to be believable, but at its heart, it is a classic teen story. Almost everyone in the book gets exactly what they deserve in the end.

Here be teh spoilers )

All in all, it was a very interesting trilogy and I'm glad that I gave it a try. Thanks [info]z_janina!

A dark storm is brewing in Manhattan and no one is safe, least of all Clary Fray. City of Ashes picks up days after City of Bones ends and tells the story of Clary Fray, her best friend Simon, surrogate father Luke, and Shadowhunter friends Alex, Isabel and Jace as they battle demons and other forces of evil in the city. It's a thrilling ride, with a couple of surprises along the way and a heaping dose of angst, as only teenagers can do.

Spoilers here )

So, all in all, still liking the books and anxiously awaiting my copy of Book 3 - City of Glass.
